2001 following a service of dedication at St Martins Church on 9th December 2000 in honour of the 2241 civilians killed during enemy air raids on Birmingham between August 1940 and April 1943.

From an initial membership of thirteen the Association has grown steadily and is now a substantial voice in the fight for a proper and fitting memorial to the civilians killed.

An announcement was made recently concerning the campaign for a memorial to the 2241 victims of the air raids on Birmingham. We were initially negotiating with the council for a suitable site near St Martins in the Bull Ring to which the leader of the council Sir Albert Bore pledged his support during a Radio WM interview on the Ed Doolan programme with our chairman on 27th August 2002. A pledge which was later ratified by a full council meeting on 5th November 2002. It has now been agreed that the memorial will be sited in Edgbaston Street opposite to St Martin's in the Bull Ring. We hope to unveil the memorial in the Autumn of this year(2005).

The task of fundraising is now in hand and although some financial assistance will be given by Birmingham City Council, a considerable amount needs to be raised.
